When I left house this morning a car passed by. The driver asked me something in arabic, I guessed he was asking for he way. I told him that he currently is on Rainbowstreet. He started asking me in english how to get to the Third Circle, which coincidentally is close to my work. So I offered him my company, showing him the way and me saving the taxifare.

He was rather fat, wore a beard, and spoke english very well. Our conversation started:

„Where are you from?“, he asked me.
„Germany.“
„Do you work here?“
„Yes, I work here for a graphic design company.“
„Are you religious?“
„No.“
He looked at me, startled.
„How’s this possible?“
„You know, in Germany many people are like that.“
„But your family, they are religious?“
„Well, originally they were, but my parents stopped being religious some day in the past.“
„But do you believe in god?“
I began feeling annoyed. Actually it’s none of your business, I thought. But I was curious to see where this conversation was leading to. So I answered:
„No, I don’t believe in god.“
He made a gesture as if someone tried to strangle him. He shouted:

I take tennis classes. I also took some hiphop-classes, and some time ago I danced Salsa. I also took some swimming classes, because I don’t swim well (starts laughing). Usually I leave the office at 8 pm, and after that I have time for my hobbies. And I sometimes go shopping with my friends and consult them when they are looking for clothes.

Ich bin mir nicht sicher, ob die Treppe zur nächsten Straße oder doch nur zu einem Privathaus führt. Ich steige hinab, im schlimmsten Fall muss ich eben wieder hochkraxeln. Es ist Freitag mittag, Gebetszeit, Wochenende, und ich erkunde das Viertel, in dem ich wohne.

Nach ein paar Stufen öffnet sich eine Tür, ein Mann tritt aus einem Haus, ein Handy am Ohr. Ich frage ihn, wie ich ins Tal komme. “Das hier ist eine Sackgasse”, erklärt er freundlich und in gutem Englisch, und fragt mich, wo ich herkomme. “Almania”, antworte ich und werde kurz darauf hereingebeten.

Innen ist es angenehm kühl, das Foto des Königs und das eines zweiten Mannes hängen an den sonst kahlen Wänden. Dann beginnt mein Gastgeber mit dem Namen Abu Sultan, von seinem Leben zu erzählen. Ich höre zu und warte auf meinen Tee. Hier ein paar Auszüge:
